Frequently Asked Questions
How do I maximize my chances of winning?
- Get the details right: Being a good detective is about more than simply figuring out who did it. Correctly identify how a crime was done, and why other suspects/witnesses behaved as they did.
- Write well: Write Sherlock a letter and lay out your case in an ordered fashion. Cite evidence to prove your claims.
- Send us a letter: Solutions submitted by mail receive bonus points.
Can I submit more than one entry?
Yes you can. If your theory of the case changes after your first submission, you’re more than welcome to submit another.
When will I hear back about my solution if I win?
The winning detective is usually notified shortly before their win is publicly announced.
What is this month’s prize?
Our “Featured Detective” prize (unless otherwise specified) is a sur-prise, and changes frequently. Past prizes have included engraved Detective’s nameplates, books, and fancy magnifying glasses.
Soon we’ll also be unveiling a special collectible badge for detectives who participate in one of our mysteries by mail. Keep an eye out for more information on that
